Event Description

Ajax is a set of technologies that allow the creation of more interactive web applications, or what is currently referred to as Rich Internet Applications (RIA).

jQuery is a popular JavaScript toolkit providing easy DOM element selection and manipulation, effects, and Ajax communication.

This presentation will examine ways to apply Ajax techniques to a web application in order to make it more interactive and responsive. The jQuery JavaScript library will be used to simplify Ajax implementation.

Following a brief introduction to Ajax and jQuery, we will look at a sample Google Maps / Grails application. David will present three version of the application, each demonstrating an alternate and progressive approach to incorporating Ajax.

You will leave this presentation convinced that if you are developing web application with any JavaScript (or if you are not even using JavaScript), you should be using jQuery as well.

About the Speaker:

David Moskowitz is an independent consultant specializing in high performing Java application development. His current interests include application framework architecture using Spring and Hibernate, and Java and XSL performance tuning and profiling.

David is the founder and current chairman of the Sarasota Java User group.
