Event Description

Hello, GatorJUG!

Are we having fun yet? Have you checked out www.meetup.com for Gainesville tech events? Well, you should! There's Python, Hackers, Front End, Ruby, and so much more.

Let's find a great brew pub for our next meeting. I'm thinking something like First Magnitude Brewery (http://fmbrewing.com), where GatorLUG had their last meeting: "The Brew Spot has shut down, so join us at First Magnitude for a social meeting while we figure out a better meeting location, talk about Linux, and drink some good beer & cider!

Come and visit The Source, First Magnitude’s on premise tasting room, and check out the 15bbl brewing system. They are a place for you to enjoy a pint and spend time with friends -all ages welcome and we are kid-friendly. They have an indoor tasting room, warehouse/brewery space, and a large outdoor, oak-shaded beer garden."

That sounds fun to me. First Magnitude may be a little far for some of you, but if I get enough thumbs up votes, we'll do it there.

Let me know - mike@codetown.us - or, just text me.

Meanwhile...

If you haven't actually joined the GatorJUG group here at Codetown, please do. That way, you'll get email when I post these meeting announcements and also you'll see when others post discussions there.http://www.codetown.us/group/gatorjugtown

Personally, I've been spending a lot of time learning Android programming, so I'll have things to say about that.

And, that's not all! There's so much going on in the software world, including beacons - have you heard about beacons? They are smart, stick on devices with built in sensors and accelerometers. Check out Estimote for an example. So cool...#nearables

So, stay tuned and like I said, please join the http://www.codetown.us/group/gatorjugtown group so you'll be in the know about these meetings.

As always, I hope to see you 2/11/15...

Apple's Illusion of Thinking Paper Explores Limits of Large Reasoning Models

Apple Machine Learning Research published a paper titled "The Illusion of Thinking," which investigates the abilities of Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) on a set of puzzles. As the complexity of the puzzles increases, the researchers found that LRMs encounter a "collapse" threshold where the models reduce their reasoning effort, indicating a limit to the models' scalability.

Presentation: A Framework for Building Micro Metrics for LLM System Evaluation

Denys Linkov shares lessons on preventing LLM production issues. He explains the flaws of single metrics, the importance of treating models as observable systems, building user-issue-alerting metrics, and focusing on business value. He emphasizes a "crawl, walk, run" approach to LLM metric maturity for successful, trust-building deployments.
