Codetown ::: a software developer's community
Codetown is a social network. It's got blogs, forums, groups, personal pages and more! You might think of Codetown as a funky camper van with lots of compartments for your stuff and a great multimedia system, too! Best of all, Codetown has room for all of your friends.

A survey conducted by independent research firm Coleman Parkes on behalf of Undo, a company focused on scaling AI-powered root-cause analysis, found that while AI coding agents have accelerated code generation, they have shifted the primary bottleneck to debugging, code comprehension, and maintenance.

At Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2026, Wolfram Sang discussed the Linux building blocks for asymmetric multiprocessing (AMP). He highlighted the solid foundation but noted challenges like limited contributor coverage and fragmented testing. Sang's work on a hardware-spinlock driver revealed maintenance complexities and the need for more reviewers and testers to support evolving AMP systems.

Grab migrated its high-volume Counter Service from a wide column database to Aerospike using storage abstraction, shadow traffic, data parity validation, and gradual traffic migration. The redesigned data model consolidated time buckets into map-based records. Grab reports about 50% lower production p99 read latency, 1 TB versus 3 TB of disk usage, and 45% to 50% lower cost per node.

On October 14, InfoQ hosts a free 60-minute panel with five practitioners on running AI in production. They'll discuss agent autonomy and human approval, how to verify AI-generated changes, sensitive-data exposure, and production RAG. Registrants can submit questions and will receive the recording.

Hannah Foxwell shares how the surge of agentic coding forces engineering leaders to rethink team dynamics. She discusses three key anchors for navigating AI-driven velocity: building software worth building, prioritizing automated safety over speed, and preserving the human element through generalist "broken comb" skillsets and sustainable on-call practices.
