Event Description
Join us as the dust settles with the Oracle Sun acquisition, new projects begin and everything else. Topic - Developing Java Apps for Blackberry.
Derek is a software developer with real experience building an open source BlackBerry app currently in production. It's an e-mail client with features that distinguish it from the included e-mail solution you get when you buy a BlackBerry.
In this presentation, Derek will take us from ground zero to launch in BlackBerry development using Java. We'll learn how to setup a development environment and begin a project. We'll walk through some development, testing, running on a simulator, and deploying to a BlackBerry.
Derek is currently employed with Cobham Analytic Solutions doing desktop Java development, and does BlackBerry development off-the-clock. He's a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute graduate and lives here in sunny Orlando.
We have capacity this month for 40 people.

If anyone wants to download and install the BlackBerry development tools in advance, I highly recommend the latest Eclipse plugin:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/devbetasoftware/javaplugin.jsp
This is what I will be using for all my demonstrations. The easiest way is to just download the full version on the website, install it (it comes with Eclipse in the bundle), and then add the update site. Then run the Eclipse update process.
