SUMMARY:GatorJUG
DESCRIPTION:Hello and welcome to GatorJUG! \n\nThis will be our first
meeting of 2016. Our sponsor is Cambridge Web Design. \n\nThere's
a lot going on in the Java world these days. JavaOne was a blast. So m
any topics. \n\nHere's an update on our January meeting. Kevin's goin
g to talk with us about analysis.\n\nKevin Neelands has been programmi
ng for 30 or 35 years or so in a wide variety of circumstances, from e
ducational programs for K-12 to sophisticated mathematical analysis us
ing everything from AppleSoft BASIC to Java, C# and ARM assembly langu
age.  Some of his work can be found in  iTunes and on Amazon.  It's
all free, so download some and give a raving review.\nThere is still
a problem with a lack of analysis in computer software, with coders ra
cing to 'get something shippable' quickly instead of giving a problem
a through examination and exploring different solutions before decidin
g on a path to take. Kevin will attempt to examine this problem and of
fer a few solutions by drawing comparisons between coding analysis and
some aspects of learning theory, but he may just ramble aimlessly for
45 minutes and then invite some audience participation in the form of
any horror stories about design gone bad-wrong people would like to s
hare.  Should prove to be interesting either way.\nThe meeting will b
e at Santa Fe College room S-317, from 6-8:30. We'll have pizza from 6
-7 and the discussion will begin at 7.\nO'Reilly Media is a cornerston
e of the open source world. Tim O'Reilly and company provide great pro
ducts like the Safari Bookshelf, great books, videos, training, some o
f the best conferences, and so much more. \n\nMeanwhile, set your cal
endar to the second Wednesday, as always and get ready for some good p
izza, excellent conversation and interesting briefs on what's new and
exciting in the Java world.\n\nAll the best,\n\nMichael Levin\nGatorJU
