:45 Using Git for Version Control | Benjamin Woodruff\nIn software de
velopment, Git is a distributed revision control and source code manag
ement system with an emphasis on speed. Git was initially designed and
developed by Linus Torvalds in 2005 for Linux kernel development. It
has since been adopted by many other projects.\nGit's primitives are n
ot inherently a source code management (SCM) system. Torvalds explains
, \"In many ways you can just see git as a filesystem — it's content
-addressable, and it has a notion of versioning, but I really really d
esigned it coming at the problem from the viewpoint of a filesystem pe
rson (hey, kernels is what I do), and I actually have absolutely zero
interest in creating a traditional SCM system\".\nBenjamin Woodruff s
tudies computer science and enjoys working with Git. Ben's presentatio
n will be interactive and you can follow the examples and demos on you
r own computer if you bring one to the meeting.\n7:45 - 8:00 Open disc

a Linux User Group located in Gainesville, Florida. The purpose of th

formats, and open communication standards. We meet the third Wednesd

inks are available. The meeting announcement will always list the phys
ical location of the meeting. If we have to cancel or change a meeting
time it will be annouced in advance on this website and posted to LI
NUX-L@LISTS.UFL.EDU. The meeting time will be 6pm unless we have an
nouced a change. We'll do our best to keep the meeting time and place
as consistent as possible. All regular monthly meetings will have an a
genda posted to this website and annouced on the LINUX-L list. You are
welcome to come early, get a bite to eat and socialize before the pr
esentation starts. Meetings will officially finish by 8pm - that's the
goal anyway. You can often find some of us hanging out on our offici
al IRC channel: irc.freenode.net #gatorlug\n \nThe GatorLUG website
is http://www.gatorlug.org. Meetings are free and open to the publi
