SUMMARY:CANCELLED! GatorJUG : Gainesville Events - Grails Web Applicat
 ion in 30 minutes
DESCRIPTION:Due to unforeseen events, tonight's meeting is cancelled.
We'll meet again next month. Sorry about that! Hope no one was inconve
nienced.\n\nGainesville Events - Grails Web Application in 30 minutes.
\nPresenter: Nem Nesic Since \"discovering\" Grails almost 4 years ago
I've been using it for all of my Java projects. While Java syntax is
acceptable when working with Grails, Groovy is recommended. For me Gro
ovy is everything that Java is plus more, much more. Gainesville Event
s was developed as a back-end app for an android app called gEvents. g
Events allows users to browse Gainesville social events on their andro
id device. It is a simple CRUD application with publicly exposed READ
API for accessing events. In my presentation I would like to go over
basics of Grails and then re-write Gainesville Events web app. I also
want to show audience how to easily parse XML documents. (I pre-load G
ainesville Events by parsing GainesvilleSun events RSS feeds). And I w
ill use Twitter Bootstrap CSS framework as well. If we have time, I wo
uld also like to show how to deploy the app to the appfog.org in 5 min
utes.\n \nBio: I was born and raised in Serbia. I moved to the US in
2002 as a foreign exchange student. In 2003 I enrolled at Santa Fe Col
lege. That's where I learned about Java and the WORA (Write once, run
anywhere) concept. That sounded promising so I invested days and night
s into learning Java. After graduating Santa Fe in 2006 with the AAS d
egree in Programming Analysis I enrolled at St. Pete College where I g
ot my BAS in Technology Management. While working on my BAS i was work
ing at Santa Fe as Java developer. Soon after that I got a job as Java
/Grails developer for Tower Hill Ins Group in Gainesville. Then my pa
rents convinced me to get my Masters. I went to Nova South Eastern Uni
versity. I graduated in 2011 with MS in Computer Science - Computer Pr
ogramming track. Besides working full time I also spend time time doin
g consulting work for various companies/industries including Florida D
epartment for Children and Families, sport centers around the country,
dental industry, etc. Last year (2011) I decided to quit my day job
and start doing full time consulting work. Consulting work allowed me
to play with different frameworks and technologies. I primarily work w
ith Java/Grails but I also know PHP, and I am familiar with android de
 velopment.\n\nFor more information visit https://codetown.com/events/g
