Did you know JaxJug meets the same day Gatorjug does? This month, Carol MacDonald is giving a talk. I asked her whether it would work for her to give the same Apache Spark talk at our GatorJug either the day before or after. That wasn't convenient, but she offered to do it 8/20 for Orlandojug. So stay tuned as I see whether that will work. Meanwhile, she said it would be ok for me to give her presentation for GatorJug! Check it out on the JaxJug site. Sound good? Let me know of presenters, presentations and venues y'all like and I'll do my best to accommodate.

I'm just back from an amazing learning experience at www.solidcon.com in beautiful San Francisco. It's like a giant Gainesville ;). I'll talk about that at our next meeting, too.

We'll meet next Wed at First Magnitude. Everyone seems to like it there.

Oh, and OSCON is right around the corner! It's the best open source conference in the world. This year is the LAST YEAR it will be in Portland, OR. :(. I'm going and I'll be there a few days before and after just because there's so much going on. Our friends at O'Reilly sent us some discounts for the conference. If you're gonna pound your fist and push for one conference this year, this is the one. www.oscon.com. I've gone every year for the past 8 years, I think, or more. It gears me up on all the latest tech and it's fun, too.

Here's an official ad from O'Reilly full of good info:

"OSCON is happening in just a couple of weeks and where will you be? At the office, wishing you were there?

Here's an idea—it's not too late to get your manager's approval. Really. We've got an easy process to make it happen. Just visit our Convince Your Manager page and follow the steps.
You'll learn about every major (and emerging) technology, tool, and best practice at the OSCON. You'll find sessions on Docker, microservices, Swift, Go, software architecture fundamentals, and much more. With a stellar lineup of keynotes and sessions and plenty of extracurricular events for networking, OSCON is shaping up to be more incredible than ever.
With a program like this, you know OSCON is going to make you better at what you do. Make sure the boss knows it, too. Get approval to attend.
OSCON is happening July 20-24 in Portland, OR. If you're serious about your work and keeping up with important technologies and best practices, you'll want to be there.
See you there!

The O'Reilly OSCON Team

PS Pay special attention to the pricing and discounts. Managers always love it when you save them money. The TEAM discount is the most popular by far.
OSCON 2015"

There you have it. Hope to see y'all next Wed at First Mag from 6-8.
